Who Controls Access To Your Data?
The issue of who owns the dealers' data and who controls the access to it seems to have finally made it to Australia. This is an excerpt from the latest issue of AIM (www.automotive-industry.com.au):
"Moves are currently underway to set-up an Australian Chapter of America's OPEN SECURE ACCESS (OSA) - a coalition of US companies who believe dealers should control their data and how it is used.
The local move follows discontent in some quarters over the way data is controlled by some software vendors in Australia. The drive for an Australian version of OAS accelerated during last weekend's NADA convention in Las Vegas".
Dealer Solutions believe dealers must have full access to and control over the data that sits inside the computer systems that they use. Not to have access and control makes the dealers captive to a single supplier, limits any benefits offered by the wider marketplace and holds them back from what the future may bring in communicating with their customers.
Dealer Solutions will be supporting any moves to develop an Australian Chapter of Open Secure Access (www.opensecureaccess.com) as should any software provider that is not afraid of what their customers want.
